Today’s blog is the final in the series of the Top 5 Forgotten Salesforce Features.
Feature 5 – Data.com Search (for lead generation)
The features in this final blog come just in time for the new-year lead generation and management process. Desk.com search will help get your 2015 lead generation process off to a good start.
Data.com Search
Even without the additional purchase of Data.com’s Clean or Prospector license, you can still perform a basic search in Data.com to find additional accounts, contacts, or leads and then manually add those records to Salesforce. That’s right, out-of-the-box, Salesforce provides basic Data.com search that is powered by Dunn & Bradstreet up-to-date data.
Here’s how:
1. Simply click on Data.com from the “All Tabs” button within Salesforce:
2. Enter Search criteria. You can search for account or contacts and can narrow your results by Region and Industry. The screenshot below shows a search for Computer & Electronics companies within the United States.
The results list all companies in the US and provides website, phone number, city and state information. You can further narrow your results by State or by selecting companies with a specific employee size, Location type or Ownership (public or private).
3. Now that you’ve identified companies, you can search for leads/contacts under the “Find Contacts” tab. The screenshot below shows all contacts for Salesforce.com in California. The detail provides the name, title, city and when the data for the individual was last updated.
You can further refine these results by selecting a Department, Job Title, or level. While you are unable to use the “add to salesforce” or “export results” buttons without an additional license, you ARE able to save the search.
Additionally, you can copy/paste and manually enter the data into Salesforce.

Data.com is a great tool. The search feature that is included with your Salesforce license offers the ability to narrow your targets to specific industries or regions. The data is updated frequently, so you aren’t working off inaccurate data. It offers a lot of value for a ‘FREE’ tool.
